IX.5.11 Pompeii. 1900. Atrium. Looking south-east across impluvium to tablinum. According to Presuhn, on the left side of the atrium is the stone wall on which the remains of the bottom of an iron chest were found. In this was found a gold ring. Above this was found a painting of Summer. On the opposite side of the atrium was a painting of Spring. The paintings of Autumn or Winter had disappeared. See Presuhn E., 1882. Pompeji: Die Neuesten Ausgrabungen von 1874 bis 1881. Leipzig: Weigel. (VIII).

See Presuhn E., 1882. Pompeji: Die Neuesten Ausgrabungen von 1874 bis 1881. Leipzig: Weigel. (VIII, plate III).
According to Fiorelli, “re-entering the atrium (from the east ala) on the red plaster of the pilaster that separates the entrances to the ala and to the triclinium, we see a female flying figure”.
See NdS, 1877, (p.249)
According to Mau, on the east side of the atrium between the ala and the triclinium, over the support for the moneychest was a female figure 0.34 high, it was a very pretty picture, showing the figure flying to the left with a view of the middle of her back but with her face turned to the viewer. The fluttering green robe covering only her legs was supported by her right arm, her shoes were green, her head covered in a cloth, in her right hand was a sickle and in her left hand some ears of corn.
You may feel for sure that there would have been similar personifications of autumn and winter.
