IX.5.11 Pompeii. December 2007. Doorway to room 6, oecus with a window overlooking the garden, looking south-west. The walls of this room were decorated in the IVth Style. The zoccolo was divided into panels, the middle zone was divided into compartments with a white background, and the upper zone also had a white background. This room was decorated with images of the Muses, beginning from the east wall, of – Clio, who reads from an open volume held between her hands, Talia, with comic mask and shepherds crook, Urania, with globe and pen (stilo), Euterpe, with two long pan-pipes, Melpomene with tragic mask and club, Erato in attitude of playing the lyre, Tersicore, playing the zither, And finally Polimnia wrapped in her cloak. In this room, a burnt human skeleton was found, with a gold ring on the finger. See NdS, 1877, (p.250)

Doorway to room k oecus with a window overlooking the garden, looking south-west.

The walls of this room were decorated in the fourth Style.

The zoccolo was divided into panels, the middle zone was divided into compartments with a white background, and the upper zone also had a white background.

This room was decorated with images of the Muses, beginning from the east wall, of –

Clio, who reads from an open volume held between her hands,

Thalia, with comic mask and shepherds crook,

Urania, with globe and pen (stilo),

Euterpe, with two long pan-pipes,

Melpomene with tragic mask and club,

Erato in attitude of playing the lyre,

Terpsichore, playing the zither,

And finally, Polyhymnia wrapped in her cloak.

In this room, a burnt human skeleton was found, with a gold ring on the finger.
