IX.5.16 Pompeii. April 1879. Painting by Sydney Vacher showing painted walls in Triclinium d’, completely faded now.
Photo © Victoria and Albert Museum, inventory number E.4407-1910.
(Note: We think this is a painting of part of the west and north wall of triclinium d’, which corresponds with the painting of the detail (below) of the wall decoration, which Vacher described as from “Grand Hotel, Pompeii”.)
Schefold describes: Triclinium l. of which: In the landscapes in the middle of the fields; one with a harbour, another with a sacred tree, weapons, armed Herm (Isis as goddess of war) Sogliano 763; furthermore still life with fruits, slaughtered birds. The Vespasian decoration faded except for the mask in the middle of the upper wall. N-wall divided into two parts.
See Schefold, K., 1957. Die Wände Pompejis. Berlin: De Gruyter, p. 261-2.
See Sogliano, A., 1879. Le pitture murali campane scoverte negli anni 1867-79. Napoli: Giannini, p. 152 no. 763.
In PPM, there is a photo of the west end of the North Wall, which would appear to show the part of the painted candelabra, a hanging horn, and part of the damaged plaster-work (matching the painting above).
They say "We are still miraculously able to see the candlesticks with scrolls, from which hang drinking horns".

IX.5.16 Pompeii. May 2005. West side of atrium a’, on the left, doorway to kitchen and latrine e’.
On the right, doorway to cubiculum f’.
According to Boyce, on the south wall of the kitchen was a large rectangular panel of white stucco.
On it were painted two yellow serpents with red crest and beards.
These were on either side of a tile embedded and projecting from the wall.
A fire was painted on the wall above the tile.
The background was painted with plants, and across the top were two painted garlands.
On each of the garlands was a painted bird.
See Boyce, G. K., 1937. Corpus of the Lararia of Pompeii. Rome: MAAR 14. (p. 86, no. 425)

In IX.5.16, the first place on the left of the atrium was searched again, and found were several iron nails, some fish bones, and in terracotta: two containers for oil, a vase in fragments, two amphorae, two pot lids, and a broken bowl containing ash.
See Notizie degli Scavi di Antichità, 1885, (pp. 162-4).

According to PPM –
South wall of the kitchen, nothing is preserved of the lararium with serpents, as described by Mau (p.210).
He described – Two serpents approach to the altar with the pine cone and egg between plants and flowers above were three ribbons and on each of them was a bird, a fourth and a fifth ribbons hung down on both sides. Note that the kitchen intended for the private use of the master was in "u" (which corresponds to the room "q" of the plan published here).
See Carratelli, G. P., 1990-2003. Pompei: Pitture e Mosaici. IX (9). Roma: Istituto della enciclopedia italiana, (p.658 and 659, no.99).
