IX.5.14 Pompeii. May 2005. Cubiculum “L”, detail of floor. Looking north through doorway to cubiculum “L”, on north side of portico. The cocciopesto floor was scattered with limestone flakes. The zoccolo of this room would have been painted to show a pattern of false marble. In the centre of the north wall were the remains of a painting of Narcissus on a red background, the side panels were yellow. The upper zone of the wall was also red. On the east wall, but almost completely lost, was a painting showing a sleeping Maenad surprised by a Satyr. This wall also had a painted false marble zoccolo, central red panel and on the yellow side panels were painted medallions. On the south wall, with a similar painted zoccolo, but on a yellow middle zone were the remains of a painting with fishes. On the west wall, the middle of the wall was painted with yellow panels containing medallions showing two birds eating; a stretched garland was seen on a red panel. Looking north through doorway to cubiculum “L”, on north side of portico.

The cocciopesto floor was scattered with limestone flakes.
