VII.15.2 Pompeii. December 2007. Doorway to cubiculum in centre of east side of atrium.
In the panel on the left of the doorway would have been the painting of Spring.
According to Sogliano –
“Spring, in the shape of a woman flying in the air, turning to the right, wearing a green robe and red mantle, which covered her left arm and lower body; she held with her left hand the four legs of a lamb, which she carried on her shoulder, and in the right hand a wicker-basket with some milk/ricotta.”
(Bull.Inst. 1872, p.166) (Fiorelli, Scav. d. Pomp. p.129 n. 270. Descr. Pomp, (p.305)
See Sogliano, A., 1879. Le pitture murali campane scoverte negli anni 1867-79. Napoli: Giannini, (p.76, no. 459)
In the panel on the right of the doorway would have been the painting of Winter.
According to Sogliano –
“Winter, in the shape of a woman flying in the air and turning to the left, with a dark-yellow robe, fluttering green mantle, which also covered her head, and yellow shoes; she held in the right hand, a branch devoid of leaves, and in the left lowered hand, Gaedechens saw two ducks of various colours, now vanished.”
