IX.8.6 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 52, south wall of ala of IX.8.3, with small window, on right. According to Bragantini, the dado of the wall was black as well as the middle zone. In the wall were three paintings, on the left was a negro with a small child and a giraffe. In the centre, described by Mau as a warrior erecting a trophy, but could have been Nike to the left of the trophy. On the right, the painting was removed and taken to the Naples Archaeological Museum, inventory number 120032, see below.

According to Bragantini, the dado of the wall was black as well as the middle zone.

In the wall were three paintings, on the left was a negro with a small child and a giraffe.

According to Sogliano, Philoctetes was standing on his right foot which was covered but his left foot was bare and the leg was slightly bent. In his right hand he held a long staff. Under the left arm was the bow and quiver. See Sogliano, A., 1879. Le pitture murali campane scoverte negli anni 1867-79. Napoli: Giannini. (no.574)
On the right, the graffito read:
FILIVS SALAX
QVOT MVLVIIRO
RVM DIFVTVISTI.
According to Varone, this translated as – You young rascal! Just how many women have you laid?
