IX.2.16 Pompeii. December 2007. Tablinum, looking north-east across tablinum.
The north wall would appear to have had a window between it and the neighbouring house.
The east wall would have been an open doorway (now blocked) through to the atrium.
According to Bragantini, the lavapesto floor was composed of white stones dotted in rows, the stones around the edge were placed in a line, in the centre of the floor was an emblema of a coloured rosette.
The wall dado would have been white, panelled with compartments of painted plants.
The middle zone of the walls would have been red.
The red north wall showed divisions painted in azure blue.
The east wall was red.
The south wall was panelled in red. The central panel contained the painting of the Three Graces.
The side panels had vignettes, but they had faded.
The panels were separated by painted candelabra at the base of the blue divisions.
The upper zone had faded, but architectural designs would have been seen there.
The west wall had red panels with borders of azure blue, with a faded vignette that showed a trace of a flying figure.
The upper zone was red.

According to Warscher –
the tablinum had a spacious window to its north looking into the nearby house (IX.2.17), placed on a higher level, and from which perhaps it was divided by a wooden gate.

Looking towards south wall of tablinum, “X” marks the location where the painting was removed from.
According to Warscher –
The painting of the Three Graces was located on the central panel of the south wall of the tablinum.
There was no other central painting on the north wall: there was a large opening into the adjacent house no.17.
(La pittura

Non vi era
un’altra pittura centrale sulla parete nord: vi era una grande apertura nella

IX.2.16 Pompeii. December 2007. Small storeroom on south-east side of peristyle next to staircase, shown as room “o” in PPM.
On the right of the photo is the doorway leading into a corridor, at the far end of the corridor is the kitchen.
According to Schefold, the location of the lararium was in this room.
See Schefold, K., 1957. Die Wände Pompejis. Berlin: De Gruyter. (p.241-243)
According to BdI, “from the corridor, a side door gave access to a square room, which has not conserved any of the original decoration other than traces of figures enclosed in red and black compartments and a lararium painting divided into two zones”.
See Bullettino dell’Instituto di Corrispondenza
Archeologica (DAIR), 1871, (p. 201)
According to Giacobello –
The painting was seen on the north wall of a storeroom/cupboard (room “o”).
