VI.8.5 Pompeii. March 2009. Doorway to room 8, storeroom on west side of atrium.

This room, storeroom or cubiculum, would have had a red zoccolo, nearly all of which has faded; a yellow middle zone to the walls, panels bordered by “carpet” design separated by a white compartment with traces of candelabra; in the upper zone were architectural elements.

The north wall was described as having a white middle zone, with yellow side panels profiled by a border of a “carpet” design with inset vignettes, to the left (west side) a was a bird/parrot turned to the left standing on the floor in front of a pilaster, to the right (east side) were the remains of a fruit, separated by a central white compartment with candelabra surmounted by a globe.
In the upper zone of the wall was a white central compartment containing a bird, at the sides were compartments surmounted with animals (?); and garlands hanging from a stucco cornice.
