I.16.3 Pompeii. December 2006. Looking south towards rectangular small garden (light-yard?), or pool? According to Jashemski, the stucco altar and serpent were on a wall above a pool. There may have been some potted plants on the top of the north side of the low wall that enclosed the small pool built against the light well’s south and east walls. Such plants would have supplemented the impression of a garden suggested by the garden painting on the wall above the pool. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.64)

According to Jashemski, the stucco altar and serpent were on a wall above a pool.

I.16.3 Pompeii. December 2006. South wall of rectangular area, garden or pool? Remains of a serpent, and with a small altar below the head of the serpent, both in stucco relief. According to Giacobello, in stucco on the south wall a serpent slides towards an altar. The scene was placed on the inside of a picture of a garden, today vanished, with plants, flowers and birds. Behind the decorated wall one finds a basin with well and a flowerbed in front. See Giacobello, F., 2008. Larari Pompeiani: Iconografia e culto dei Lari in ambito domestico. Milano: LED Edizioni.
