Mau described the basin, as “not very deep and lined with tufa”. According to Mau, “it was not easy to define these rooms with certainty. It was not a bath, but it would be possible, and I am disposed to think it, that here one did the laundry”. See Mau, A, in BdI 1874, (p.180)
According to Fiorelli, “there was the staircase that led to the peristyle, but half way up one meets a short descent, that led to a complex of small rooms destined perhaps to be the bath, in the first of which we have a tank that takes water from the peristyle thanks to a tube (pipe) of lead”. See Pappalardo, U., 2001. La Descrizione di Pompei per Giuseppe Fiorelli (1875). Napoli: Massa Editore. (p.38)
