VIII.2.18 Pompeii. According to Niccolini this is a painting from Level 1 atrium 4 south wall.
Mau in 1890 identified it as Bellerophon receiving the fatal letter from a priest.
Sogliano in 1893 argued it was Hermes, Argo and Io.
Koloski Ostrow considered the presence of the majestic horse, perhaps Pegasus, made Mau’s interpretation more plausible.

VIII.2.18 Pompeii. According to Niccolini this is a painting from Level 1 atrium 4 south wall.

Mau in 1890 identified it as Bellerophon receiving the fatal letter from a priest.

Sogliano in 1893 argued it was Hermes, Argo and Io.

Koloski Ostrow considered the presence of the majestic horse, perhaps Pegasus, made Mau’s interpretation more plausible.
