VI.6.1 Pompeii. December 2007. Room 19, exedra to the north of the peristyle.
According to Jashemski, this huge room at the rear of the peristyle had a wide opening on both its sides.
This would have given a splendid view of both the peristyle garden on its south, and the large hortus at the rear on its north side.

According to Jashemski, when excavated in 1827, the garden had a portico across its southern end.
At the rear of the garden, on the right, there was a water reservoir and remains of lead fittings and pipes, probably used for watering the garden.

According to Garcia y Garcia, in the night of 14th-15th September 1943 at least three bombs fell on the area of this large garden.
They destroyed two pilasters and four columns.
In the north-east corner of the garden, there was also the partial destruction of a room with a large cistern, together with a corner of a room near the separate entrance at VI.6.12.
Also damaged was the area to the south-east of the atrium
and the annexed workshop. This
damage was restored.
