Pompeii Casts. Victim numbered 1, plaster-cast made in 1863, from Vicolo degli Scheletri.

 

Found with casts numbered 2 and 3, a small distance from cast number 4.

In his description of this plaster-cast in his Guida di Pompei, 1877, Fiorelli described –
“Man, [no.1], fallen in the lapilli, which does not preserve the impression of the back or of the right arm. The swelling of the stomach is due to a piece of ash having broken off at the time when the gesso was formed. (Reg.VII, insula IX, via quarta).

According to the information card (shown above) –
the lower plaster-cast is a clearer photo of the woman clutching a few precious things to her bosom which she had grasped before their flight. 
She was found at the rear of the group in the Vicolo degli Scheletri.

The plaster-cast numbered 1 and 4 can be seen in the centre of the photograph, below them are the fractured remains of the plaster-cast numbered 2.

They were found in the Vicolo degli Scheletri.
