HGW04e/f Pompeii. Herculaneum Gate West Side. Grave enclosure of the Buccii and the Melissaei.

(Eschebach does not list separately from West 4, Kockel Süd 4E/F).

Excavated 1770.

HGW04e/f Pompeii. Plan by F. La Vega of area outside Porta Ercolano.
See Fiorelli G., 1860. Pompeianarum antiquitatum historia, Vol. 1: 1748 - 1818, Naples, Tab. III.
The exact location of these graves seems uncertain.
According to Kockel
Mommsen in CIL X placed them next to HGW04a.
Mau states they were found in a plot connected with that of the Istacidii at the rear.
La Vega does not mention them at all in his comprehensive notes in PAH and they are not on his plan of the graves in Tab III.
Kockel suggests they did not lie next to HGW04a as their funeral forms differed from each other.
They may possibly have been on the Via Pomeriale where it is also possible that they could already see wall remains.
No positive location is given.
See Kockel V., 1983. Die Grabbauten vor dem Herkulaner Tor in Pompeji. Mainz: von Zabern. (p. 70).
