I.15.3 Pompeii. May 2010. Looking south across room 14, garden area.
In the enormous garden at the rear of the houses on the north side of the insula, roots from an orchard, vineyard and vegetable garden were discovered.
According to Laurence a market garden was identified in the south-eastern area of Insula 15.
Produce included grapes, olives, nuts, fruit and vegetables. These were probably sold elsewhere in the city.
Similar planting schemes were excavated in the 19th century at VI.6.1 and IX.1.20.”
